Work Based Learning / Safety - Texas
Rules adopted by the State Board of Education (SBOE) and the Commissioner of Education are part of a larger body of state agency rules known as the Texas Administrative Code (TAC). These rules are collected and published by the Office of the Secretary of State. SBOE and commissioner's rules are codified under Title 19, Part II, of the TAC. Title 19 is Education, and Part II is the Texas Education Agency. The SBOE and the Commissioner of Education may adopt new rules or amendments to existing rules.
The SBOE approved changes in June of 2010 to Chapter 231, Assignment of Public School Personnel. There are changes that apply to Career and Technical Education instructors who will be teaching Career Preparation or any of the Practicum courses that were added to the TEKS for 2010.
The new rules state "The school district is responsible for ensuring that each teacher assigned to this course has completed appropriate training in state and federal requirements regarding work-based learning and safety. This requirement is effective beginning with the 2010-2011 school year."
